─ Museum for contemporary art
─ Competition 2016
─ In cooperation with Kraaijvanger and Ruud-Jan Kokke
In 2016, Museum Arnhem organised an invited competition for a new museum extension. krft participated in a team with Kraaijvanger and designer Ruud-Jan Kokke. The 19th century museum on top of the river banks had been turned into a closed box to turn the old summer society building into a place for modern art.
In our proposal, we reinstated the society building into an open public space for social interaction and made it into the entrance building and cafe. The exhibition spaces are taken out of the unsuited 19th century building and moved into a new, underground extension. This underground extension is positioned on the edge of the cliff-like landscape to create a view into the river valley. The existing central hall is turned into the connecting element between upper and lower museum, offering view into the sculpture garden and the exhibition space.
