Last year, krft participated in a research project by Mevrouw Meijer an initiative that matches young designers with educational institutions to solve their design challenges. This does not only create fresh thoughts in the sometimes dogmatic context of school design, but also allows young designers to design their first school.
We were part of a research team together with Studio MAKS and Studio Selva, that took on the challenge of a new, large scale fusion school for children with special needs: learning or behavioural challenges. The large scale of the project conflicted with the personal and sensitive needs of these children. The three offices responded researching different typologies: a block, a campus and a village.
Today, Architectuur NL published an article on the work of Mevrouw Meijer, showing the power of design: a well curated selection of designers tackling complexity with innovative and sensitive responses. A great read.
